Spanish Translations on Health Insurance Site Causes Problems

As if insurance jargon isn’t confusing enough, looks like attempts to make Spanish-speaking people understand health insurance forms on a website have gotten a little lost in translation.

The website had Spanish instructions to help online applicants with English forms. Unfortunately, the translated versions had so many grammatical mistakes that it probably didn’t do a good job of assisting individuals who wished to enroll. Some say they may have been computer-generated, judging from the botched construction of sentences.
“When you get into the details of the plans, it’s not all written in Spanish. It’s written in Spanglish, so we end up having to translate it for them,” said Adrian Madriz, a health care navigator who helps with enrollment in Miami.
