Homeowners To Check Their Insurance Coverage Summary After Hurricane Sandy

Under the legislation signed by Gov. Chris Christie, homeowners will expect to receive their one-page insurance coverage summary after Hurricane Sandy. Unfortunately, they were surprised to find out that their policy does not include damage from flooding.

“Given the extreme weather we have seen in recent years, it is more crucial than ever for policyholders to understand what’s in their coverage,” said Eric Stenson, spokesman for New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co., which he said has been in forefront of consumer education.

According to Stenson, reading the full policy is the best way to better understand its contents. A one-page summary is not even detailed enough to clearly explain the entire coverage.
